Students to Compete for Scholarships and Prizes Through Holocaust Remembrance Project; Annual Writing Contest Prize Features Trip and Scholarships

Invisisble spacer
TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 25, 2001--High school students across the United States are invited to enter the 2002 Holocaust Remembrance Project, a writing contest offering cash prizes, all-expenses-paid trips to Washington, D.C., and scholarships up to $5,000. The project, established in 1995 as an educational program of the Holland & Knight Charitable Foundation, Inc. and Holland & Knight LLP, is designed to promote and encourage the study of the Holocaust.

The project encourages students to think responsibly, be aware of world conditions that undermine human dignity, and make decisions that promote the respect and value inherent in each human being. This year's contest challenges students to study this dark period in world history and to confront the realization that genocide as public policy is possible, even in a modern, civilized society.

To enter the writing contest, students must submit a documented essay of 1,000 words or less addressing this year's contest theme. High school students throughout the United States will compete for 100 first, second, third, and fourth place prizes. Winners will receive the following cash prizes: first place will receive $500; second place $300; third place $100; and fourth place $25. The entry deadline for this year's contest is April 30, 2002.

In July, 2002, the fifteen first place winners, along with teachers and Holocaust survivors, will participate in an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to visit the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and other historic sites. National Grand Prize Scholarships will be awarded to five overall winners.

The Holland & Knight Charitable Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization formed by Holland & Knight LLP to provide the tools to meet the most critical needs of children. Holland & Knight employees volunteer in Foundation programs to mentor, tutor, coach, and promote literacy within public schools and community centers in every Holland Knight community in the United States.

Note: Additional information about Holland & Knight LLP is available on the firm Web site, http://www.hklaw.com.
