Three Junior High School Students Named National Gold Medalist By U.S. Ski Team for Essays on Sportsmanship

PARK CITY, Utah, Dec. 31, 2001 /PRNewswire/ -- Anne Browning of Charlotte, N.C., Brittni Drezdzon of Milwaukee, Wis., and Kathryn Gianaras of San Francisco, Calif., were chosen as national gold-medal winners based on essays they wrote for the Sprint Sportsmanship For Life program. The nationwide educational program, conducted this fall, focused on good sportsmanship, its impact on America's youth, and positive role models.

U.S. Ski Team members Jonny Moseley, Picabo Street, Joe Pack, Michelle Roark, Brian Currutt, Evan Dybvig, Kristina Koznick and Lisa Kosglow served as spokespersons and challenged junior high school students to write essays about what sportsmanship means to them in all aspects of life: both on and off the playing fields, in their classrooms and in relationships with friends and family.

The three national gold-medalists' essays were chosen from more than 5,000 essays written by students from across the country.

The three students earned a trip to watch the U.S. Ski Team compete at the U.S.S.A Gold Cup presented by Sprint, and participate in a number of U.S. Ski Team activities in Park City, Utah. In addition, the three students will become honorary members of the U.S. Ski Team and Sprint will donate $1,000 to each of their schools.

In addition to the three national gold-medal winners, seven regional gold- medal winners were selected. These regional gold-medal winners also become honorary members of the U.S. Ski Team and receive a Sprint Sportsmanship For Life gold medal.
