Survey Finds 13 Year-Olds are Most Fascinated With Self-Image and Sex Issues; While 17 Year-Olds Ask About Religious Beliefs and Careers Survey Asks Teenagers What They Want to Know From Their Favorite Pop Stars We've all read how teens are facing weighty issues like sex and drugs at younger ages, but the good news may be that teens are also learning to deal with these more serious matters earlier as well. To get a better perspective into the mind of a teen at any age, we may learn more by the questions teens ask, rather than the questions they answer. Qtopics conducted a national survey of 800 teenagers ages 13 to 17 asking them what they want to know from their favorite music pop star. According to the results, younger teens are more curious about topics like breast implants, sexuality and drug use, while older teens are more concerned with love, careers and religious beliefs. For example, 64% of 14 year-old girls who had a question for Britney Spears asked about breast implants - specifically if she has them - versus 18% of 17 year-old girls. In fact, the number one question of 17 year-old girls for Britney Spears was if she was in love with her boyfriend. While this may demonstrate how teenage girls are starting to feel the pressure of self-image at a younger age, it also demonstrates how the older teenage girls may have learned to deal with that pressure. In an example of sexual concerns versus religious concerns, 62% of 14 year-olds who had a question for Nick of 98(Degree) asked if he thinks he can wait until marriage to have sex with Jessica Simpson. However, 48% of 17 year-olds were less concerned with Nick and Jessica's sex life and more curious about their spiritual life - such as if they ever go to church together. The Qtopics survey also found 76% of 13 year-olds asked Ricky Martin if he is gay versus only 13% of 16 year-olds. In fact, the number one question for Ricky Martin from 16 year-olds was more future oriented - Some other interesting results include: --58% of 14 year-olds asked Britney Spears if she was a virgin versus 24% of 17 year-olds. --45% of 16 year-olds asking Kid Rock a question wanted to know if the infamous partier would tell his teenage kids not to do drugs or alcohol, whereas 38% of 13 year-olds wanted to know what famous people he parties with. --14 year-olds were three times more likely than 17 year-olds to ask Whitney Houston if she has a drug problem. The number one question from 17 year-olds was if she thought her marriage would survive. For more information, visit www.Qtopics.com. |
